Avengers-Phil and Steve

Or, if Tony were to title this, "Agent and Capsicle."

Or, if Thor were to title this, "Son of Coul and Captain Stars and Stripes."

I knew I wanted to put these two together right away when I started drawing these Avengers duo pics. They're both so cute! Phil kinda speaks for the nerd audience, being the fanboy that he is, and Steve, I think, speaks for the non-nerd audience that just wanted to see a good movie, since everything the other characters do in the movie confuses/surprises him. And, of course, they also have ADORABLE lines and just plain adorable moments throughout the film. The early scene of Phil "on hold" while Natasha beats up the Russian thugs makes me giggle every time. And I love the scene where he and Steve formally meet for the first time. I half-expected Phil to break into song like:
HEY I WATCHED YOU WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING
AND THIS IS CRAZY
BUT IT'S A VINTAGE SET
SO SIGN THEM MAYBE?!



Phil also has a set of my favorite lines:
"Even I don't know what it does!"
*blasts Loki through the wall*
"...So that's what it does. 8D"

I also love how clueless Steve is throughout the movie. I laughed way, way harder than I should have when he's trying to fix the ship with Tony, looks at the damaged power board, and says, "It appears to run on some kind of electricity!" And I also love the line "I understood that reference!! 8D" He's so proud of himself. That line is, like, a meme now. YAY.

And now, SPOILERS!! If you haven't seen the movie, don't read the crossed out section below!

I don't believe the situation with Phil. I admit that I believed it the first time I saw the movie, up until the point when Maria announced that the blood-soaked trading cards were found in Phil's locker, not his jacket. Sure, that whole moment at first was RIGHT IN THE FEELINGS, but, after I thought about it for a moment, I realized what exactly she was saying. The actor Clark Gregg has also hinted that he will be in Iron Man 3 next year, so I'm interested to see when/how that movie takes place. Plus, remember what Tony said in The Avengers: Nick Fury is a spy, THE spy. His secrets have secrets. In other words, he's a lying liar who lies.

I sort of wanted to draw Phil and Steve almost uncomfortably close to one another, just because Phil is that much of a fanboy. I almost expect Tony to jump in with his troll-like self and be like, "GAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!" I will also say that, so far, Phil has been the hardest character for me to draw and shade. He's a somewhat older character in the movie, but he still maintains a sense of childlike innocence throughout it, more than any of the other characters. So I wanted him to portray those contrasting ideas but not appear immature, because he's not. I don't know if I managed to pull that off, but I am very happy with the way Steve turned out. (Lol, I read an article about Chris Evans--

--and then freaked because he was in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. So I watched that movie and laughed my ass off because his character there is so different from Steve Rogers. I dunno, I just found it hilarious and impressive that he can do such different characters so well.)

I colored Steve's eyes light blue, and they darkened a little too much during scanning. Oh well. (It's a little hard to see, but Captain America on the trading card has light blue eyes, too!) Phil's eyes were colored dark blue because I figured he'd want a similar color to his hero.
